A Gentle Reminder (That Gets Results)

After a great week off with friends I’ve had a few days of quiet time and rest (as well as a great brunch on the beach yesterday) and was reminded of something that brought me back to why I do what I do.

But first, a quick story…

One of my favorite coffee shops here is called Deli Cafe (there’s certainly no lack of places to get good coffee in Costa Rica).

On the way to taking my friends to the furniture store, that sells coffee (only in Costa Rica 😉 — the man who owns the furniture store also has a family-owned coffee farm here)… we stopped at Deli Cafe for an iced latte (furniture store only sells bagged coffee).

They also have a ridiculous selection of yummy treats! 😋

As we were waiting to pay for our coffee & treats, another woman (ex-pat) who was working there commented about how dangerous their cinnamon rolls are (I concur, see below):

We got into a brief conversation, she’s from Austin, TX, and recently got a place in a community really close to me.

I introduced myself (her name is Nicole, who I’m now referring to as “my new friend Nicole” 😂), said it was nice to meet her and we headed out.

Then I did something I haven’t done in a long time (and not since moving to Costa Rica).

I went back and asked her if she’d like to get coffee sometime. She said sure, we swapped #’s, and I felt like a 5-year-old on the first day of kindergarten.

I’ve been fortunate to make great friends in my building and have connected with people through them, but I decided it’s time for me to do a little branching out on my own.

As Brene’ Brown says, we’re “hard-wired for connection.”

So I took it a step further this weekend when I signed up for a free Twitter course (delivered via email), by Kevon Cheung.

In his welcome email, he asks to hit reply and introduce yourself and that he will 100% reply.

So I did. And he did. 👇

Naturally, now I want to add that to my welcome sequence for my email course (Easy Email Marketing), but more importantly…

It reminded me that it’s ALL about relationships.

As much as I love my “white space”… spending time with people I resonate with feeds my mind and soul.

This is my gentle reminder.

Be conscious of who you spend your time with and make relationships the priority (i.e., let go of the numbers. The numbers will come when you focus on relationships).

And if you want to up your Twitter activity (I’m still floored at the traffic I’m getting from Twitter since my renewed efforts, even though I’m still figuring that out), get Kevon’s free email course: Making Twitter Friends

And of course, connect with me on Twitter here!
