Life in Costa Rica… Why I’m Staying Longer

Recently I shared a FB memory from a year ago when I signed a lease to move to Costa Rica. I shared that I’m staying longer (my actual move-in date was May 31st, 2021) and had a few people ask what I liked about it.

Besides the amazing sunsets, there’s a lot to love about Costa Rica. 🌴

I moved here without ever having visited.

Having visited another state I moved to (to Idaho from California) didn’t prove helpful so I figured, why not?

Worst-case scenario I move back.

In May of last year, I packed up my dogs, computers, and clothes and headed to Potrero on the Pacific Northside in the Guanacaste region.

I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs here (loving it, thinking I’d leave, and then loving it again), but the benefits far outweigh everything else.

Plus… with the state of the world, the Pura Vida lifestyle feels pretty perfect right now.

What I love about Costa Rica

Much like anyone else who has visited here, I love the obvious things: the weather, the beaches, the sunsets, and the people.

As much as I miss my conveniences, a recent trip to L.A. to visit my daughter made me realize I appreciate simplicity more than convenience.

What I love:

  • A slower-paced life: I still run my business and work as much as before, but nothing is rushed here.
  • Simplicity: you can pretty much get what you need, but there are no “quick trips” to Target or Costco. It’s amazing how much you don’t need when you can’t get it (I stock up when I visit California 😉).
  • Comfort & company: No one cares what you wear (truly) — regardless of where you are. It’s all about the company you’re with.
  • Health: I physically feel better than I have in a long time, have lost weight, and have zero inflammation when I’m here (things that bother me in the states don’t bother me here).

I’m slowly learning Spanish and the effort is always appreciated (even if people don’t understand what I’m trying to say).

More than anything else, I’m loving the adventure that living in another country is providing. I highly recommend it. 😊
